Myofascial massage cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. Rather than applying pressure to the muscles, this form of therapy uses specially designed cups that create a medium to strong suction which lifts the skin, fascia and muscles upward. This action increases blood flow, loosens and releases adhesions and softens muscles and connective tissues. As stagnant fluids are brought to the surface to be cleared, discoloration of the skin can occur which will dissipate in a few days to a week, depending on the level of toxicity in the tissues. Oncology massage is customized and client-specific, crafted to meet the ongoing needs of of someone in treatment for cancer or with a history of treatment for cancer. A safe massage is created using traditional massage therapy techniques adapted to fit the individual. Light pressure, non-circulatory effleurage strokes, limited static compressions, holds, passive movement of joints, and trigger point therapy are all useful and possible techniques for each client, providing a gentle, low-impact massage. Massages are kept light in pressure in order not to raise the risk of lymphedema due to the removal or biopsy of a lymph node, or the use of radiation in cancer treatment.
